Kate & Leopold (2001)
Stuart Besser (Liev Schreiber) finds a space near the Brooklyn Bridge where there is a gap in time. Therefore, he goes back to the 19th century in order to try to better understand the past. When he travels back in time, he takes a small camera with him. While taking various pictures, a man who actually lives in the 1870s time period by the name of Leopold (Hugh Jackman) notices Stuart, and becomes curious. Once Stuart realizes that Leopold has noticed something odd about him, he quickly heads back to the time warp area in order to go back to the 21st century. But, there is a problem. Leopold follows him, and now ends up in an entirely different century. There is no way to fix this problem immediately because the time warp area only exists at certain times. Therefore, Leopold is stuck in the 21st century until the time warp opens up again. Stuart's ex-girlfriend Kate McKay (Meg Ryan) lives in the same apartment complex as him. Therefore, she eventually meets Leopold. Of course, they eventually like each other. So, towards the end of the movie, it's time for Kate to figure out if she should stay in the 21st century, or if she should go back to the 19th century so she can be with Leopold. I'm a huge fan of Meg Ryan, so that's mainly why I wanted to watch this movie. But, Hugh Jackman does a wonderful job. He makes his character seem awkward, yet amusing, when being exposed to the various differences between the 19th and 21st centuries. True, most of the movie was extremely predictable, but most romantic comedies are predictable. Also, at times, parts of the movie seemed to be a bit cheesy. But, it managed to keep my attention and I thought that it was cute. I wouldn't mind watching it again.
I gave this movie 7/10 stars on imdb.com.
